Bad Sachsa border land museum

  - darkometer rating:  3 -

A small museum on the theme of the former "Iron Curtain" border between East Germany (GDR) and West Germany.

This is only an indoor museum – and it is not located on the actual border strip. However, it has a fair collection of the usual paraphernalia of uniforms, bits of border fence, various signs, medals, etc. and parts of a balloon used for a (failed) attempt at fleeing to the West. The "highlight" may be the reconstructed interior of a border guard command post – complete with a simulated alarm sound track …

The museum (signposted "Grenzlandmuseum") is near the end of the village. It is housed in the local community centre. A black-red-and-yellow border marker post signals the museum clearly enough.
