The second largest city in Slovakia, after the capital Bratislava, and another industrial centre of the country (but also a university town).

 
I haven't been there yet, but I know that “Authentic Slovakia” run so-called post-socialist tours there. And if their equivalent tour in Bratislava is anything to go by, the ones in Košice are bound to be pretty good too.

  
I'll report back in more detail once I've managed to go on one of these tours next time I'm further east in Slovakia (there are other reasons to visit the area, especially Dukla Pass).

Location: in the east of Slovakia, some 15 miles (25 km) north of the border with Hungary and a good 40 miles (65 km) west of the border with Ukraine.
